Tom understands that good design benefits all and his lifelong commitment to architecture has made a difference. For Tom, community ownership and engagement in the process and outcome of design are the best measure of a project’s success. He has been responsible for, and has provided oversight to, over 260 major and 400 minor educational facility projects with a total value of over 3.2 billion dollars in construction cost. These projects include everything from specialized educational planning to designing award-winning new facilities, renovations, and additions. Tom’s widespread knowledge of site conditions, energy-efficient mechanical systems, and state reimbursements is used as a resource for each project.
I am passionate about my wife, our sons, our dog Oscar, and all of our Gilbert Architects family. As a child, I was raised on the water, and developed a lifelong love of the Chesapeake Bay where currently we spend much of our time on our boat “Mahalo” getting together with our friends. I love fishing, gardening, and cooking with my wife, where I am the grill master and I love golf, especially watching my youngest son play competitively. I am also a huge “Jimmy Buffett” fan. I enjoy exploring the Caribbean Islands and getting in touch with my Norwegian seafaring ancestors.
