The University of Maryland, Baltimore County set out to create a holistic and accessible health center for its students. With permanent off-site construction, they found a fast and fiscally responsible method to achieve this goal.
Rapid execution through modular design
To establish a holistic, centralized health hub for students, the University of Maryland, Baltimore County replaced an aging, disjointed complex with a modern multi-level facility.
Facing tight timelines and strict budget constraints, the university leveraged permanent off-site construction for a fast, fiscally responsible delivery. Working as part of a design-build team, the firm designed a permanent structure that unifies student health and counseling services into a single, accessible campus landmark.
Comprehensive health + student wellness programs
The center integrates a diverse array of specialized clinical and wellness spaces, allocating over 4,800 square feet to primary and urgent care medical treatment rooms, administrative offices, and health education suites.
An additional 3,100 square feet serves the campus counseling center, while dedicated suites support Student Conduct and Community Standards, creating a secure, centralized resource for student support and daily living needs.
Inclusive community + meditation environments
Beyond traditional health care, the facility supports students’ mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being.
More than 1,500 square feet provides offices, meeting rooms, and worship space for spirituality and meditation. A welcoming central lobby and two multipurpose rooms connect the building’s services while supporting group gatherings, community connection, and stress reduction.
