Bancroft Elementary School – LEED Silver
The new 105,172 s.f. elementary school houses grades 1–5 and is located in the north/central portion of the Kennett Consolidated School District. The building is designed around five flexible grade-level pods with the ability to add an additional classroom to each grade level if necessary. The school’s architecture is designed to complement and blend into its rural surroundings. The media center opens to an outdoor plaza and learning space set into the wooded natural landscape. Features include a separate cafeteria for food service and a multipurpose room that will serve physical education. Also included is a gym for after-hours activities and a flexible auditorium with a stage.
The building’s design clearly separates the academic learning pods from the public/community spaces such as the cafeteria, gymnasium and media center, allowing for secure activities both during and after school hours.
This LEED Silver school features a geothermal system, maximized daylighting, low-emitting VOC finishes, cost-saving energy-efficient lighting and controls, waterless toilet fixtures, efficient plumbing systems, and stormwater control systems.
