B. Reed Henderson High School
Connecting campus wings + centralizing administration
Serving the northwestern portion of the West Chester Area School District, comprehensive renovations and additions prepared the high school to support a 1,600-student capacity.
A new two-story addition anchors the main entry, establishing a centralized suite for administration, guidance, and health services on the ground floor while linking two previously disconnected wings to improve overall building circulation and accessibility.
The addition’s second level houses a modernized science department featuring updated laboratory spaces.
Upgrading core student spaces
Interior renovations focused on expanding and refreshing high-use academic and athletic facilities throughout the campus:

Expanded dining space: Enlarged one of two existing cafeterias to consolidate student dining and comfortably handle future student growth.

Academic and media hubs: Fully updated the library and media center to support digital research and collaborative group work.

Athletic suites: Overhauled existing gymnasiums and student locker rooms alongside comprehensive performance updates to the main auditorium, stage, and public restrooms.
Sustainable infrastructure + site adaptation
Mechanical upgrades introduced an energy-efficient air conditioning system utilizing ice storage technology, allowing the district to produce ice during off-peak hours to cool the building at significantly reduced energy rates.
Systemic improvements included a complete roof replacement and new exterior windows. To address space constraints on the compact campus, the project optimized land usage around the existing football stadium and main athletic fields while establishing adjacent properties for expanded student parking and additional practice fields.
