Phoenixville Area Middle School

Modernizing a shared campus without disruption
Faced with an aging facility requiring extensive upgrades, the district chose to construct a new middle school and centralized administration building on the existing campus shared with the high school.
Building on available land allowed the original school to remain fully operational throughout construction, eliminating the massive cost and distraction of setting up a temporary modular campus.
Once the new facility opened, crews demolished the original building and restored the site with new athletic fields to support district programs.
Intuitive zoning for academics, arts, + athletics
Designed for grades 6 through 8, the multi-level layout isolates the sixth grade on its own floor to help younger students transition smoothly into middle school.
Administrative and guidance suites flank the central entrance, ensuring all visitors pass through a secure check-in.
At opposite ends of the building, a 960-seat auditorium and a 1,200-seat gymnasium serve both middle and high school events. These public spaces can be locked off from the academic wings during after-hours games and performances to maintain security.

Comprehensive traffic + administrative separation
Our team completely overhauled campus-wide circulation to improve safety across both schools.
A centralized bus loop serves the high school and middle school while staying entirely separate from parent drop-off zones, with a shared parking field positioned between the facilities for staff and event visitors.
To keep district-level business from impacting daily school traffic, the new administration building features its own dedicated campus entrance and separate parking lot.
Site restoration + final handover
Once students moved into the new facility, crews demolished the original building to make way for broad site restoration.
The reclaimed land was converted into new athletic fields, giving the district expanded outdoor space to support both physical education classes and interscholastic sports programs.
