Bollman Bridge Elementary School
Strategic additions and open-plan modernization
Originally constructed in 1988 with additions in 1994 and 2008, the 77,504-square-foot facility underwent expansion and modernization to support a 694-student state-rated capacity.
The project added a four-classroom pod to permanently eliminate four temporary modular units, alongside targeted additions for the cafetorium, art and music rooms, and a Regional Early Childhood Center (RECC).
Following district guidelines for modernizations, renovations eliminated the original open-plan layout, converting open spaces into self-contained classrooms that provide clear acoustic separation and meet spatial standards for all grade levels.
Courtyard expansion + security enhancements
To meet COMAR state regulations, the health suite was expanded alongside the installation of a secure main entry vestibule.
A small addition extended into an existing interior courtyard to preserve critical administrative adjacencies and maintain direct sightlines of the entry from the reception desk.
Concurrent renovations reconfigured the former RECC spaces to better suit updated programming and improve daily functionality.
Comprehensive systemic + environmental upgrades
Comprehensive infrastructure improvements replaced all ceiling systems, allowing for fully updated lighting, electrical, mechanical, and fire sprinkler systems, along with revised plumbing to serve the new classroom walls.
The project brought the entire facility into full accessibility compliance while achieving LEED Silver certification through energy-efficient systems and sustainable design choices.
